Bass fishing in Minnesota
Bass fishing is abundant in Minnesota lakes and rivers. The state is top of the list in the U.S. for bass fishing.
Bass fishing is simple, even for a beginner. There are many types of bass including largemouth and smallmouth. The techniques used for bass fishing are easy to learn. Spinner bait is the best lure to use for bass fishing and often lures large fish to the hook. Crankbait is another good lure to use to catch bass. Rattlebaits and jigs are also very popular lures to use in bass fishing. All work well on either largemouth or smallmouth bass.
A solid rod and good reel are essential in bass fishing. Using the right bait, but the wrong rod and reel can make for a long and disappointing fishing excursion. Graphite rods are perfect because of their lightweight, but sturdy build. The best reels for bass fishing are durable with little likelihood for backlash. Open-faced spinning reels come highly recommended and couple that with graphite rod and it should make for a great bass fishing experience.
With bass fishing, location is important. Large lakes are better than smaller lakes for bass fishing. The most successful bass fishing is conducted in waters less than 20-feet deep. Minnesota is known as the Land of 10,000 Lakes, making for many perfect bass fishing locations. Pelican Lake near Brainard, MN is a perfect location. Deer Lake in north-central Minnesota (Itasca County) is another ideal spot, offering plenty of space on the water for those fishing boats.
Whether you are a life-long angler or this is your first time out on the water, bass fishing is a great experience. Remember to use the proper bait—whether its spinner bait, crankbait, rattlebait, or jigs. Keep in mind that anglers develop a favoritism for one bait over another after a little bit of personal use. Choose a good, sturdy graphite rod and open-faced spinning reel. Finally, take a look at one of Minnesota’s 10,000 lakes, take the week off from work, and head out for some fantastic bass fishing!
